In January 2023, Schaefer Group USA took full acquisition of Bulk Maritime Agencies, S.A.S (BMA Colombia) with the intention of adding vessel agency services to our growing portfolio of shipping companies. Started in 1999, BMA Colombia had a noteworthy and multi-decade long track record of excellence, making its extensive history of quality service a match for our organization. And by purchasing 100% of the existing shares, Schaefer Group then further extended its reach into Latin America by directly having a presence in Colombia. Now called Schaefer BMA de Colombia, we operate on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts from our commercial head office in Barranquilla, Colombia with agency offices in Santa Marta, Cartagena, and Buenaventura. Since then, we’ve expanded significantly. Schaefer BMA Group has grown further to now include offices and joint-ventures in the United States, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Chile. And in 2025, we officially moved our headquarters to Panama City, Panama. Our Colombian agency has now grown into a 6 nation company, headquartered in one of the world’s most important shipping hubs, Panama.

Started in 2025 as a joint-venture between Valhalla Ship Agency and Schaefer BMA, Valhalla South Texas operates mostly in the ports of Brownsville and Corpus Christi. In addition to South Texas, and through the Valhalla network, we place further emphasis on the northern section of the Gulf of Mexico in the US States of Texas, Louisianna, and Alabama, creating a deep connection to those waters.

Started in 2025 as a joint venture between Pérez y Cía of Spain, and Schaefer BMA of the United States, Pérez Schaefer is our entry, as vessel agents, into Mexico - one of the most important shipping markets in the Americas. Having started in 1853, Pérez y Cía brings an invaluable experience to our agency, and we are undeniably proud of this joint-venture with a group we feel brings the opportunity for a bright and long-lasting future.
